BRISBANE’S emmanuelworship band has jumped at the chance to perform at Darling Harbour, Sydney alongside Guy Sebastian on July 1 when the official song for World Youth Day 2008 will be launched.
Guy’s Receive the Power, chosen among 120 other hopeful tunes, will be featured at the event which will herald the “handing over” of the WYD Cross and Icon to Australia.
Director of emmanuelworship Patrick Keady said band members are looking forward to performing a number of songs from their repertoire of original music from albums such as Revolution and Ride of a Lifetime.
“It’s a real honour to be chosen … bigger than anything we’ve ever done before … but I don’t think we’ll appreciate the enormity of it until we get there,” he said.
Throughout July and August members of emmanuelworship will travel alongside the cross and icon to various youth and diocesan events throughout Queensland.
Guy Sebastian will perform Receive The Power with fellow artist Paulini.
An international version featuring verses in Italian and Spanish with the bridge in French will be released on the same day.
Both versions will be available to download from the World Youth Day 2008 website www.wyd2008.org late on July 1.
Browsers will be able to watch the video clips – the first ever produced for a WYD theme – on the WYD08 site on the same day.
And those who want to buy a limited edition CD version of both songs can click on the WYD08 Shop icon on the homepage (the song will not be available in music stores).
Sydneysiders should go to Tumbalong Park in Darling Harbour from 1.30pm on July 1 to see Guy and Paulini perform Receive The Power live for the first time in a special celebration to welcome the WYD Cross and Icon of Our Lady to Australia.
