LITTLE Lucy Foran is hoping to become more mobile with a little help from her parish and school community.
Lucy, 11, is in Year 5 at Christ the King School, Graceville, in Brisbane’s west, and suffers from a rare skeletal condition that makes it very painful for her to walk long distances.
In order to put off complicated and painful surgery on her tiny feet for as long as possible, specialists have suggested Lucy use an electronic scooter for travelling longer distances.
But Lucy’s parents have to buy a special lifting arm to fit to their car so that they can lift the 40kg scooter …
To help the Foran family with the cost of buying the equipment, the Corinda Graceville Parish community has banded together to hold a fundraising night on October 15.
The fundraiser will be held at the Sherwood Australian Rules Club, Chelmer from 7.30pm and the community will be doing all they can to help Lucy with the positive and sunny nature that has seen her become a much-loved member of the community.
Lucy’s mum, Jenny Kidd, said the fundraiser would help to raise some of the $5000 needed to buy the lifting arm.
She said the fundraiser would include popular band The Others, food, lucky envelopes and an auction of sporting and art memorabilia.
Tickets are $30 per head or $50 per couple.
To make a donation or to come along on the night and help Lucy phone (07) 3379 6925 or (07) 3375 1441.
