BRISBANE Auxiliary Bishop Brian Finnigan will visit the Catholic communities of Kenilworth and Kandanga this weekend to offer his support to residents who will be affected by the proposed Traveston Dam on the Mary River.
Bishop Finnigan and Caloundra priest Fr Stan Griffith are expected to visit the site of the proposed dam.
Bishop Finnigan will attend a community meeting at Kandanga Hall where the dam will be discussed.
He will also celebrate Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Kandanga and St John Bosco Church, Kenilworth.
Kenilworth Catholic community member Margaret White was one of a group of people who asked Bishop Finnigan to come to the area and speak to residents.
She said Bishop Finnigan’s visit would show them the Church was supporting them in their time of need.
Premier Peter Beattie announced on April 27 the Government proposal to build a mega dam (more than 1.3 times the area of Sydney Harbour) on the Mary River at Traveston Crossing that will inundate the central Mary Valley.
Up to that time, no information had been made public about planning procedures or studies that justified this decision.
