REVIVING the World Youth Day spirit, one year since Sydney, wasn’t difficult in Brisbane Central Deanery.
Deanery youth co-ordinator and organiser of the July 18 “Revive” rally Melissa Baker said it was “a huge success with some of the 80-person strong crowd describing the night as ‘awesome’ and ‘amazing'”.
“It kicked off with a set from local band Project Hatch with popular tunes that left the crowd shouting out for more,” Melissa said.
“One popular segment … was an energetic dance from Jesus Youth.
“(And) Sarah King and Ben Baker shared their personal stories of faith which led into a time of prayer which gave people the opportunity to connect with God on a one-to-one basis.”
Participants then divided into small groups “allowing each person the opportunity to connect with others in their local area and find out how they could plug into their parish”.
Much help behind-the-scenes spurred the night.
“Young and old pitched in to make this night happen which was an inspiring display of service and unity,” Melissa said.
“It was a fantastic event and the (WYD08) journey doesn’t need to be over.”
A follow-up “faith formation event” will be held today (August 9) from 3-8pm at St Peter Chanel, The Gap.
“Revive was about connecting with God and others whereas this day (August 9) will be focused on going deeper to discover more about faith, God and the Church,” Melissa said.
Today’s activities, including games and a youth Mass, is open to all youth of the deanery.
