BLESSED with “a glorious day under blue skies” an estimated 2000 people attended Brisbane archdiocese’s Corpus Christi procession at Nudgee Junior College, Indooroopilly, last Sunday.
Apostles of Mary chaplain Jesuit Father Greg Jordan said the “picture perfect” conditions to mark the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ were matched by the presence of celebrant Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Oudeman of Brisbane.
“We were also blessed to have Bishop Oudeman speak from the heart … in the middle of what was a very busy day for him,” Fr Jordan said.
“It was exceptional and all present were most appreciative.”
Overseen by the Apostles of Mary, the event attracted locals and those travelling from outside Brisbane city, with some parishes organising buses to enable their members to attend.
Fr Jordan said this Corpus Christi procession “began on the parish level in West Chermside in the 1990s”.
“It outgrew the parish very quickly and a larger venue had to be found,” he said.
“… We are always grateful to Nudgee Junior who make the space available for the celebration.”
Fr Jordan said “an army of volunteers” also made the event possible. This year’s gathering had a “special addition” – a Vatican exhibition of “the Eucharistic miracles”.
“They are very striking,” Fr Jordan said.
“And a good subject for meditation.”
