OLIVINA Tu’iono set herself an important mission when she visited Queensland at the start of Lent to promote Project Compassion.
She wanted to say a heartfelt ‘thank you’ from the people of Tonga.
Ms Tu’iono, who is president of Tonga diocese’s Commission for Justice and Development, spoke at an Ash Wednesday Mass in St Stephen’s Cathedral where Archbishop John Bathersby launched Project Compassion’s Freedom from Slavery campaign for Brisbane archdiocese.
She was a guest of Caritas Australia, which organises Project Compassion each Lent as a major fundraiser.
Caritas Australia’s diocesan director in Brisbane, Franciscan Missionaries of Mary Sister Carmel Bennett, said Ms Tu’iono visited 13 parishes, including schools, in Brisbane archdiocese.
