THE Sisters of Mercy and Mercy Family Services have taken over auspice responsibilities for the Romero Centre in Buranda, Brisbane, where practical assistance and support is given to refugees on temporary visas.
The sisters took over their new role at the centre on December 1.
Mercy Family Services said the challenge since 2000 of caring for 58 unaccompanied Hazara young men on temporary visas from the recent wave of refugees has been a most rewarding experience. This continues with a program which supports the remaining young men, now mostly aged over 18.
The Romero Centre is unique in Australia and has been operating for almost four years.
