WHEN in comes to science, Stuartholme School, Toowong, can be justifiably proud of its students.
Stuartholme Year 12 students Isabella Benfer and Cara Nolan are two of only 12 young Australians chosen by the National Youth Science Forum to represent Australia at international Science Forums in 2010.
Both students attended the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF), a 12-day residential program with sessions held in Canberra and Perth in January of this year.
The NYSF is attended by 450 students selected by local Rotary clubs out of a pool of more than 2000.
Out of these 450, only 12 were selected to represent Australian youth science at the Euroscience Open Forum and London International Youth Science Forum in June/July.
Isabella will be attending the Euroscience Open Forum in Turin, Italy.
For six days some of the world’s best scientists, journalists and students will gather to announce and discuss the latest scientific breakthroughs.
Cara will be heading for the London International Youth Science Forum, one that will attract more than 250 students from around 50 countries.
Hosted by the Imperial College in South Kensington, students will attend lectures by high-profile scientists and visit some of the finest research laboratories in the United Kingdom.
The once-in-a-lifetime opportunity has left the Stuartholme girls inspired to succeed in their Year 12 and university studies but first they need to raise $9500 each to make the trips.
The girls said sponsorship or donations of more than $2 from local businesses, Rotary clubs and individuals were tax deductible and would be much appreciated.
Further information on fundraisers planned and how to help Cara and Isabella is available from the college.
