Leaders of pro-life organisations sound disillusioned that more people have not joined them in their public demonstrations against abortion, such as last weekend’s Walk for Little Feet (page 1).
They are so passionate about the need to fight to save the lives of unborn babies, and the rest of society can be grateful that they are.
They are continuing to mount pressure to ensure that abortion laws are not further liberalised, and so that politicians realise there is strong opposition to any such moves.
However, as Cherish Life Queensland president Teresa Martin said “polls indicate that society in general is becoming more pro-life”, and that must give the movement leaders heart that whatever they are doing is having some effect.
Their fear would be that if that support does not translate into public action then it runs the risk of being drowned out by the noisy pro-abortion lobby.
Ms Martin gives the rest of us who are pro-life supporters but, so far, absent from public rallies something to think about as we balance our priorities in a busy life.
In the end, there are so many roles in the Church and all of us have to decide which ones are best for us. Pro-life action is one such role at this particular time.
