MUCH is being written about the The Passion of the Christ and huge numbers of people are going to view it.
Are people going to see it because it is about Jesus or because in it they see suffering humanity?
After all if we don’t see Jesus in each other where do we see him?
We suggest that the viewers might ask themselves the question: What would Jesus do for those who are suffering it if he was walking the earth now?
Then ask: What am I prepared to do about the suffering of God’s people today?
We believe that Jesus is here and now and is asking us to do something about inflicted suffering from abortion to deliberate torture of the innocent and the not so innocent.
Jesus experienced exquisite torture so he knows all about it. Today others suffer as much as, and for longer periods, than he did.
We suggest that viewers might think about joining or supporting organisations that specifically target such things as:
- The abolition, from all nations, of torture in all its forms.
- Rehabilitation of the victims of torture.
- The bringing to justice of the perpetrators of torture, including governments who allow, or even use it deliberately.
- Legislation to ensure that all people are protected from abuses of human rights.
There are many such organisations, both inside and outside the Church.
