YOUTH ministry workers from throughout Brisbane archdiocese gathered at the O’Shea Centre, Wilston on June 5 to discuss ministry in the modern Church.
Campus ministers, retreat team workers and youth ministry co-ordinators had the opportunity to gain insights into the philosophies and ideals behind lay ministry in the Church.
The day was facilitated by the archdiocesan director of Lay Pastoral Ministry Formation, Ursuline Sister Anne Surtees, beginning with a chance to reflect on each person’s understanding of lay ministry.
Virginia van der Meer from Parish Youth Ministry Services said the day was a great opportunity for youth workers to get together and share aspects of their own ministry.
‘The day was particularly beneficial for the new workers to network with other youth ministry contacts.
‘But also, it was a chance to take a step back and look at the bigger picture of leadership in our Church, and where we fit in,’ Virginia said.
‘In a way, it was really empowering and inspirational. We felt really affirmed within our ministry.’
The participants had the chance to dream of the ‘perfect’ Church and vision for the future and to discuss trends and issues that will assist them in their ministries.
