IMAGINE disconnecting from technology for 48 hours.
It seems inconceivable.
But that’s exactly what the Edmund Rice Camps community is encouraging.
The disCONNECT Challenge will be held from 7.30pm on March 23 to 7.30pm on March 25.
Edmund Rice Camps Queensland executive officer Alice McMonagle said participants would “switch off their mobile phones, tablets, televisions, MP3 players, electronic games, computers and anything else that gets in the way of connecting face-to-face”.
“This challenge is promoting a wonderful message of the value and importance of connecting with family and friends on a face-to-face level,” Alice said.
“We live in a world that relies on technology for so much.
“This is an opportunity to reconnect with people, the old-fashioned way.”
Alice said the disCONNECT challenge was not “anti-technology”, instead it “provides a space to allow participants to think about their relationship with technology, the people in their lives and consider what they might like to change”.
“It also provides a platform for corporate organisations to promote ‘work-life balance’ programs to employees as well as to demonstrate their commitment to traditional off-line relationships to the wider community,” she said.
Edmund Rice Camps Australia is a network of charities providing “some fun … (for) kids and families who are doing it tough”.
It also gives the chance for young people to connect with “positive role models”.
