A GROUP of Brisbane Year 12 students set off on one last, heartfelt adventure before starting their final exams – old friends returned to their primary school for an emotional reunion with their prep teacher.
Marist College Ashgrove student Jeremy Kerwin came up with the idea of returning to his old school, St Finbarr’s Primary, and to meet Donna Fiechtner who taught the prep class of 2009.
“She needed to stand on a step ladder,” the photographer who captured the image of Jeremy and Donna together, said.
“He shed a tear to be back.”
It was a spontaneous idea for 17-year-old Jeremy to organise a get-together of all the boys and girls from his prep class – all are now finishing their student careers at Marist College and nearby Mount St Michael’s College.
Jeremy started a social media group chat to see who was interested and he was flooded with responses.
Last Friday, after a final assembly and before the start of Year 12 exams, the old friends visited St Finbarr’s and surprised Donna Fiechtner.
Most of the prep class of 2009 now tower over their former teacher. A few of the students shed a tear as they visited their old classroom.
Mrs Fiechtner asked them what they remembered from their prep year and what had made the biggest impact?”
The answer – craft corner.
The Year 12 students spoke to some of the current preppies, visited St Finbarr’s playground, library, and gym.
One question on returning to their old primary school: “Was it always this small?”
