Grant said there was a need to introduce some older people into the group to act as role models or mentors.
‘On the same Friday night, we invited Virginia van der Meer from Parish Youth Ministry Services to run a workshop for those who were interested in coming along to support the older youth group,’ he said.
‘About a dozen new people attended the workshop and they will come along to the activities in the coming weeks to meet the young people and get a feel for youth ministry.’
The older volunteers will also hold structured activities and lead the young people in reflection, spiritual renewal and group discussions.
‘They will also bring their new ideas to the older group,’ said Grant.
‘And after the workshop, the younger group turned up with their quiches and gave us all a bite to eat.’
