The Australian Catholic Bishops’ Conference is sending two official delegates to World Youth Day in Rome in August.
The two delegates are Mark O’Neill from Broken Bay diocese and Alice Priest from Port Pirie diocese.
Mark is employed as a youth minister at Waitara parish, on Sydney’s Upper North Shore, and has recently accepted a position as a member of the Diocesan Liturgical Commission to promote youth involvement in ecumenical activities.
Alice works full-time on a voluntary basis to assist other members in the diocese with co-ordinating celebrations for the Great Jubilee. She has also been commissioned by Catholic Mission Australia in Sydney, to produce a series of primary and secondary classroom materials.
The Bishops’ Committee for Laity co-ordinated the nomination and selection process on behalf of the Australian bishops.
Chairman of the Bishops’ Committee for Laity, Bishop Barry Collins of Wilcannia-Forbes, said it was an extremely uplifting experience selecting two young people to represent the bishops’ conference for the World Youth Day celebrations in Rome.
