EIGHTEEN young men attended a dinner hosted by Archbishop John Bathersby of Brisbane on July 29.
The annual Archbishop’s Vocations Dinner was held at his residence, “Wynberg”.
The 18 guests had been recommended by their parish priests to attend.
Brisbane Vocation Office director Fr Ian Wren said besides the social aspects of the evening, there was a short session on topics and questions about discerning the call to priesthood.
He said staff and seminarians from Holy Spirit Seminary were on hand to assist with that part of the night by sharing their own call and journey to priesthood.
Archbishop Bathersby told the men there was a need for more priests in today’s Church.
He said even though the archdiocese was preparing for a future with fewer active priests, it still looked towards those gathered and encouraged them each to say “yes”.
One of the guests said he was pleased to attend.
“It’s good to find out more about becoming a priest, so I can start considering it seriously.
“And it’s great to be around other young guys who are also thinking about it.”
