ORGANISERS of the National Christian Youth Convention (NCYC) held in Brisbane in early January are hailing it as a great success due to an unwavering vision.
Thousands of young Christians from throughout Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Fiji, Indonesia, Singapore and East Timor took part in the event from January 3-9.
An initiative of the Uniting Church of Australia, NCYC would not have been possible without a dedicated band of more than 300 volunteers, according to organisers.
This year, the vision for the convention was on a much larger scale than in the past.
About 6500 people attended the Sunday Evening Celebration on January 7 at the Entertainment Centre, which saw everyone joining in the spirit of worship and song.
NCYC also saw the introduction of the Just Arts festival on January 6, also at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
More than 30 bands performed on the day including Rhubarb, The Lads, Alabaster Box and the Paul Coleman Trio.
There were roving entertainers, poets, dancers and food stalls throughout the grounds of the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
A strong Australian flavour was injected into the festival and younger, greener bands were given the chance to mix with high-profile bands and learn the ins and outs of playing big gigs such as NCYC.
