CATHOLIC Youth Ministry (CYM) in Brisbane, part of Faith & Life, is keeping up the connection with young people with the “Come, Walk in the Light” focus.

“Connect, Grow, Choose and Go” are key steps in the journey of “Come, Walk in the Light”.

As part of that focus, on August 19, CYM will welcome American musician and songwriter Steve Angrisano to “celebrate faith with energetic music, inspiring testimonies, prayer and a powerful message of hope for young people”.

He will be part of “Vivid 2012: Go Make a Difference” at St Laurence’s College, South Brisbane, from 4-8pm.

Archbishop Mark Coleridge of Brisbane will celebrate Mass at the event and give catechesis.

Brisbane Catholic band emmanuelworship will also add its dynamism to the gathering.

Earlier in the day at the college (10.30am-12.30pm), Steve will lead a workshop for musicians, singers, youth leaders and others involved with liturgy planning.

The workshop will help participants “move beyond the ‘sit and stare’ syndrome … (and) explore a number of ways to make music ministry come alive”.

Ipswich parish is bringing a busload of young people to the daytime and evening event.

Ipswich associate pastor Fr Paul Catchlove said “this is a great opportunity for young people to come together and rejoice in their Catholic faith, particularly through the celebration of the Mass presided at by the Archbishop”.

David King, a Year 10 student of St Ed-mund’s College, Ipswich, said the day’s events were “a great opportunity to gather with other young people throughout the archdiocese”.

Youth Ministry co-ordinator Michael Hart said Steve was an effective communicator to parish groups, youth, families and religious educators.

“As a musician, composer and storyteller, Steve has shared his music and message with thousands of people and his unique blend of laughter, song, story and audience interaction have made him a popular choice as a presenter and performer,” a CYM spokesperson said.

Steve has been featured at six World Youth Days and often speaks about the joy of being Catholic.

He has been a musician, music director and youth minister for more than a decade with a focus on “being a witness of the love and life of Jesus”.

Some of Steve’s well known songs include Go Make a Difference, Sweet Redeemer and Celebrate Youth.

Registrations for Vivid (gold-coin donation requested) and the daytime workshop ($15 cost) are best made before August 13 via CYM’s direct number – (07) 3109 6800 or the website www.cymbrisbane.org.au

“Come, Walk in the Light” is an initiative with on-going opportunities until the end of 2013 with a view towards World Youth Day in Brazil next year.
