A YOUTH festival initiated by the young Catholic people of the world is coming to Melbourne.

Youth 2000 Festival offers participants an unique spiritual experience, spanning a weekend, and will be offered to the young people of Melbourne at the end of October.

Inspired by Pope John Paul II who entrusted the new millennium to the world’s youth, Youth 2000 has achieved extraordinary popularity around the globe and as a result, the festivals have flourished.

As a result of Youth 2000, new life and vitality has been breathed into the global Church and the youth have been given a chance to enliven their faith.

Swelling youth groups have also been a direct result of the festivals, and parish activities, ministries and devotions have been renewed with great interest and vigour.

Youth 2000 was launched in Sydney in August 1999 in preparation for the Year of Great Jubilee and the weekend festivals have attracted hundreds of young people to date.

The festivals are organised by and for young people aged 13-30 and encompass a unique style and spiritual flavour.

The weekends involve inspirational talks, Masses, sharing of faith, group workshops and exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and give young people the chance to discuss their problems and current world issues.

Youth 2000 is designed to incorporate the participant’s heart, mind and soul through experiences in pray

er and liturgy.

National director of Youth 2000, Cate Dorahy believes the festival will leave young people with a deep and last experience that will inspire them to carry Jesus and the Church into the new millennium.

Music is also an essential component of the Youth 2000 Festival and bands of rock musicians play upbeat lively material fresh from America and Europe.

Young people in Melbourne are encouraged to attend this spiritually inspiring event and to meet like-minded young Christians in a Christ-centred environment.

The festival will be held at St Fidelis Hall, West Coburg, Melbourne from October 27-29.
