ST Joachim’s Parish Hall, Holland Park, rocked to the sounds of Jane Massingham as the Brisbane singer/songwriter released her new CD Hope on October 12.
Hope is a collection of seasonal music for Advent and Christmas.
Jane has worked in many Catholic primary and secondary schools as a music teacher and as a musical co-ordinator for a number of parishes in Brisbane archdiocese.
She was responsible for co-ordinating musicians and singers for youth rallies throughout the 1990s and played each year for the Commission for Young People.
About 100 people who attended the launch heard a live rendition of the songs on the CD from Jane and her live band comprising guitars, drums, keyboards and vocals.
Paul Catchlove from the archdiocese’s Youth and Children’s Ministry Team said Jane’s music was perfect for young people.
“This was clearly evidenced when Jane’s two children, Gabrielle and Helena, sang the opening verse and chorus of Emmanuel,” he said.
Paul said the “beautiful, liturgical” music was definitely music the whole congregation can sing.
“For All You’ve Done For Us and The Child I Know You Want Me To Be are also very appropriate for graduations and other rituals of thanksgiving,” he said.
“My favourite song is Hope .
“This song challenges the listener to ‘walk in the footsteps’ of another.
“Both this song and the CD are the perfect Advent story, a journey towards new life, new life in Christ, and new life as the body of Christ.”
Jane has widespread experience performing concerts, directing choirs and presenting music workshops.
