THE question on everyone’s lips at the Mary MacKillop Antioch Australia Day weekend at Birkdale was ‘what is belief, and how do we find it?’
The weekend included workshops, talks, testimonials and fun and games to help young people between the ages of 16 and early 20s find the answers to these questions.
A team of leaders co-ordinated by Oliver Toledo and Stephanie Jorna helped guide the 35 young people in attendance.
Stephanie said belief showed itself through powerful life-giving talks on subjects ranging from the importance of the Eucharist to how to follow Christ in our daily lives.
‘The young people, both new recruits and experienced Antiochers, were challenged to change their outlook on life and to grow to be the best people that they can,’ she said.
‘They were also inspired to help change other people’s lives by bringing Christ to those that did not know him.
‘Most importantly they were given the confidence they need to include Jesus in their everyday lives and to live their lives according to God’s calling for them.
Oliver said the activities and games they played throughout the weekend helped to build a sense of community in the group.
‘They helped to build the long-lasting friendships that will prove to become a great support network for the youth in the years to come,’ he said.
The weekend was supervised, supported and guided by parent couples John and Anne Jorna and Bob and Kerry Minton, with the support of Jan Simkons and Brad Minton and the God Squad, a team of past Antiochers.
Birkdale Antioch meets every Sunday at Mary MacKillop Church, Birkdale.
