THE music was pumping at Holy Spirit Hall, Bray Park on October 9 as about 150 youth and young adults gathered for the inaugural ‘Pumped’ youth rally.
A ‘pumped’ band kept young people moving at a free barbecue before the main event.
Pumped co-ordinator Paul Ninnes said although numbers were less than expected, it was a great night for everybody who turned up including identical twins David and Peter Bissell, otherwise known as professional clowns, Peebo and Dagwood, and Christopher Mercovich, who is training to be a Carmelite priest.
David and Peter spoke about living with cystic fibrosis and how it had taught them life was precious and everyday was a gift.
They explained how they found laughter and having fun was the best medicine.
Christopher gave a personal witness of God in his life and how it made him ‘pumped’.
Paul said most of the young people left the three-hour rally enthused to make a change in their lives.
Eighteen year-old Jonathan Brown said the speakers were so good he came away from the event wanting to live life to the full.
Jessica Williams, 12, could not wait for the next event.
‘It was an awesome night … great music, great people and a great experience,’ she said.
Kate Anderton, 25, who was part of the organising team, said she was amazed by the energy of the young people and the messages that the speakers gave.
‘It’s the little touching stories that come out of an event like this that make it worthwhile,’ she said.
