Prayer power at camp led by NET

A NATIONAL Evangelisation Team (NET) visited Petrie parish to take about 28 young people on a camping trip to the Kondalilla scout facility in the Sunshine Coast hinterland on March 6-7.

During the weekend the team of 12 young adults took part in activities including soccer, and sessions beginning with testimonials detailing what led each of them to become a member of NET Ministries.

The testimonials were usually followed by a drama ‘skit’ and discussion groups, where Petrie’s young people were challenged to explore their understanding of Jesus in their lives, how they viewed Jesus and how they viewed themselves.

Parish youth group co-ordinator John Weerden said the highlight of the weekend was the Saturday evening session.

After a skit, older members were asked to sit quietly in their own private space for 20 minutes and pray to Jesus about any special intentions they had or about the role Jesus plays in their lives.

‘To see the power of prayer at work was absolutely astounding,’ he said.

‘While everyone was praying a member of the NET team would come and sit with each individual, lay their hands on them, pray for them and with them.’

John said younger parish members were divided into groups and were led in prayer and discussion by the remaining members of NET.

He said the power of the Spirit seemed to run through their bodies as they came to realise the love Jesus has for all of them.

He said it was an emotional time for some of the group and it also bonded everyone together.

‘Prayer may not have moved mountains that day but it certainly moved us.

‘To have the privilege to witness and be part of a shared weekend with the NET team was a fantastic experience and an opportunity treasured by all,’ John said.
