Party for youth

A CHRISTMAS party with fun and games for St Bernard’s Parish’s youth groups brought together more than 50 young people and their families at Clairvaux MacKillop College, Upper Mt Gravatt on December 7.

Members of ‘The Garden’, for Years 1-3, ‘Mark 10’, for Years 4-6, ‘Luke 18’, for Years 7-9, ‘Crossroads’ for Years 10 -12 and the young adults group, ‘The Lighthouse’, were represented at the party.

They joined with adult leaders and their families to celebrate the end of the year.

Youth group co-ordinator Jaye Barros said the day, based on a ‘water’ theme, was originally planned on the college’s ovals with a range of water activities.

‘But, with the ovals already soggy from a week’s worth of rain the festivities were brought inside and the theme changed to ‘wind’,’ she said.

Jaye said the young people were involved in games such as balloon pass, paper bag relay, tissue blow and giant beach ball.

But the highlight of the party was when Santa turned up and greeted them with a lolly scramble.

‘A long line soon formed to give Santa the latest wish lists,’ Jaye said.

‘Santa even brought along his twin along – ‘mini Santa’.’

The day finished with a barbecue and a Christmas trivia competition.
