Many of the youth have relatives and friends in disaster stricken areas.
“It will be a great night of family entertainment showcasing the finest talent from our local communities and at the same time supporting a great cause,” one of the organisers Luisa Laughren said.
“All funds raised from ticket sales plus sale of raffle tickets and refreshments will be handed over on the night to a representative from Caritas Australia.”
The community is gathering “as much help as possible in terms of donations of raffle prizes, canned drinks, cakes and munchies” for the fundraiser.
“We only have a very limited time to organise this fundraiser but feel that we need to act as soon as possible as the need of the victims is very immediate,” Luisa said.
“Our parishioners have always been very supportive of the young people in the past and so we are positive of their support once again.”
Co-ordinator of the relief effort Audrey Chan-Seow asked for the support of the “wider community of Brisbane”.
“The bigger the audience on the night, the better for the victims of the disaster,” she said.
The Asia-Pacific Natural Disaster Fundraising concert will be held at Darra-Jindalee Catholic School, 115 Darra Station Road, Darra, at 7pm on October 23.
Tickets at $5 per person or $15 per family (two adults and two children) may be purchased on the night or by contacting Audrey on (07) 3715 6053 or Luisa on 0414 635 300.
