PAUL Edwards has been appointed the youth worker for Surfers Paradise parish.
Thirty-seven year-old Paul is married with four children.
In the early 1990s, he was the youth worker at St Edward the Confessor parish in Daisy Hill, under Fr Dan Ryan.
Ten years later, he will again be working with Fr Ryan, who is now parish priest of Surfers Paradise.
During the 1990s, Paul worked in the corporate arena, dealing with companies and their recruitment issues. He also has a degree in psychology.
When the youth worker position came up, Fr Ryan contacted Paul and asked if he wanted to apply.
Paul has packed up his family to move from Ipswich to the Gold Coast.
His children, aged nine years to nine months, were very eager to move, with his two eldest starting recently at St Vincent’s School, Clear Island Waters.
“Since I left high school, I’ve always been interested in young people and worship through song and liturgy,” said Paul.
“I was very happy to be given another chance to work with young people.
“Fr Dan is totally focused on the youth at Surfers Paradise and my aim is to give young people a good experience about what Church is about because I feel it’s lacking these days.”
Paul said the main focus was providing lively music, a dedicated youth Mass, camps and retreats.
Paul’s hobbies include family pursuits, swimming and going to the beach.
