MUSICIAN James Doig believes a specific Marian devotion has been his family’s source of hope in “dark times”.
“We have a strong connection to the Morning Star,” Mr Doig, 28, said.
“She’s been a source of hope for my family in dark times.”
The source of hope is also the title for a new Marian CD arranged by Mr Doig and performed by Australian group Prima Luce.
All 18 tracks on the new CD, Morning Star, are dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The CD also includes original compositions by individual Prima Luce members, including Brisbane musician Xavier Piat.
“There are so many new works created, either as new compositions or new arrangements,” Mr Doig said.
“These are new songs for the Lord.”
Prima Luce recorded the CD in the crypt at St Mary’s Cathedral, Sydney, over three days in September.
Composer and Prima Luce member Ronan Reilly said the group unknowingly recorded the CD between two important Marian feast days, the Nativity of Mary and the Most Holy Name of Mary.
Mr Reilly said his favourite Marian devotion was the Miraculous Medal, designed by French saint Catherine Laboure following a vision of the Blessed Virgin.
“All members have a special devotion to Our Lady,” he said.
“As a group we’ve been wanting to do something dedicated to Our Lady.”
The CD was also an opportunity to honour the mothers of the Prima Luce members.
“At the front, we’ve done a unique design on this CD, where the members of the group have dedicated it to our mothers,” Mr Reilly said.
“Overall, the real reason behind the CD is one of maternal affection, both to honour our mothers and the Mother of God.”
Prima Luce will launch Morning Star at Marymac Centre, Annerley, on Sunday, October 18, as part of an Australia-wide tour.
The Brisbane concert is free and CDs will be on sale for $25.
