New vision: NET Ministries will introduce a Brisbane archdiocesan team that will work in a similar capacity to other diocesan teams.

NET Ministries Australia has launched a new team to service youth and students in the Brisbane archdiocese in 2014.

This is the first time NET (National Evangelisation Teams) has introduced a team to service exclusively the Brisbane archdiocese, the home base for NET Ministries.

It is also the first time that Brisbane Catholic schools will have access to an archdiocesan team.

Diocesan NET teams service schools and parishes in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Townsville.

Discussions to begin a Brisbane NET team began more than 12 months ago and were “put into motion” prior to the recent structural changes to archdiocesan agency Faith and Life.

NET Ministries supervisor Jeremy Grear said there had been a strong desire for dioceses across Australia to have a NET team.

Mr Grear said Brisbane Archbishop Mark Coleridge’s “push for youth ministry and evangelisation” influenced the motion to launch Brisbane’s own archdiocesan team.

Volunteers on the Brisbane NET Team are expected to run school retreats, or Encounter Days, facilitate religious education classes and offer student leadership programs.

Mr Grear said young people living in Brisbane who were considering doing NET would suit the new Brisbane NET team.

“Since Brisbane is home to the NET headquarters, we are looking at putting people on the team who are familiar with events and ministries from Brisbane, such as Ignite and Ignite Youth,” he said.
