SENIOR students from four Marist schools in Brisbane got together on the October 19 pupil-free day to focus on “what it means to be Marist”.
Young Marists Brisbane coordinator Christian Nobleza said the students from Marist College, Ashgrove; Mt Maria College, Mitchelton; Trinity College, Beenleigh; and St Teresa’s College, Noosaville, enthusiastically participated.
“(The aim) was to help the students realise that (soon) they will no longer be Marist by enrolment or by the uniform they wear but instead they will be given the opportunity to continue being Marist by choice,” he said.
“Around this time of the year our team believes that it is an important step to connect those students who have gone through a Marist high school to further opportunities after they leave.”
The event welcomed 2008 graduate of Marist College, Ashgrove, Zach Woodward and Brisbane archdiocese’s vocations promotions officer Mark Lysaght.
“Both speakers had important messages to share with those gathered including tips on how to make the most of the time left at school, as well as looking at how to make positive choices once leaving school,” Christian said.
“My hope is that the Young Marist movement in Brisbane is able to provide a space for them as well as other young people to connect into Marist mission and spirituality through a range of opportunities which combines faith, community and action.”
2010 is shaping up to be a busy year for students who desire to continue to live Marist spirituality, with Christian saying there would be “retreats and immersion opportunities” to “deepen spirituality and awareness” especially to “communities abroad … as well as to indigenous communities in Australia”.
