DARRA-JINDALEE Parish has a new youth ministry co-ordinator.

Nina Crawford took over the reigns on May 4 after previous co-ordinator Shelley Richardson left in November 2003 to take up a position as campus minister at St Michael’s College, Carrara on the Gold Coast.

For five months the position was looked after by Christian Nobleza, a member of the parish youth ministry team.

Nina is the parish’s sixth youth co-ordinator since it began employing someone in the position in 1995.

She was commissioned at a Mass led by parish priest Fr Daniel Carroll on May 23 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, Darra.

The 23 year-old completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2002 at Australian Catholic University (ACU National) Banyo, where she began exploring youth ministry.

‘I was helping out and just being present at liturgies, street retreats, reflection days, retreats and other functions that were held at the university,’ she said.

Edmund Rice Camps were another passion of hers.

‘I’ve been volunteering on camps for over four years now and I find each camp allows for personal growth though new challenges,’ she said.

She said her hope for youth ministry in Darra-Jindalee Parish was for each young person to feel welcomed and valued in the Church community.

‘I want to reach out to young people and support them in any way I can.’

Parish youth ministry team member Christian Nobleza said it was fantastic to have found a new youth co-ordinator.

He said Nina brought much needed enthusiasm and new ideas to the parish.

‘She is a very determined leader who, with the youth ministry team, will continue to empower our young people to be the hope of our parish community and the wider Church in Brisbane,’ he said.
