ITALIAN sausages were sizzling when families, couples and individuals joined Giovani Insieme (“young people together”) for their annual Easter Monday car trek and picnic.
Organiser Michael Guida said the rain held off in Brisbane to allow an enjoyable day starting with a local navigation exercise.
“Going for a large family picnic on Easter Monday – called ‘Pasquetta’ – is an Italian tradition,” he said.
“It’s a tradition that Giovani Insieme has continued … Pasquetta is all about continuing the celebration of Easter with family and friends.”
For the ninth year the group has met on Easter Monday, this year’s assembly numbering 80 with “11 cars” participating in the trek.
“The teams were sent on a two-hour journey around Brisbane,” Michael said.
“(They were) answering questions and visiting sites such as ACU (Australian Catholic University) and Bartley’s Hill lookout.
“There was a great family atmosphere at the park and it was wonderful to see many new faces on the day.”
Giovani Insieme is the only young-adult branch of the Italian Catholic Federation in Australia.
Its next event in June will be more “trivia minded”.
