Ignite Conference 2018: ‘Let us be empty, so that God can fill us up’

Becoming empty: “Yet, whatever is filled up is meant to be emptied out – the petrol in my car, the food in our bodies. It is the same with the love of God; ‘Let us be empty, so that God can fill us up’.”

I DON’T know about you, but often the indicator on the fuel gauge in my car sits closer to ‘E’ than the ‘F’.

I drove around with the petrol light illuminated on my dashboard wondering how much further I can push it before my car sputters to a stop.

More than once I’ve had a stern word from a mechanic about running on fumes and  the damage it does to my car.

If only we had a light that flashed for when we are running on fumes?

When my body needs fuel, I eat. When it needs rest, I’ll take a break. But what about our souls?

How many people do you know who have just become so tired and disconnected from their faith that eventually it just “ran out”? They are empty.

The theme for this year’s Ignite Conference is Empty.

Emptiness is usually something to avoid, but at the same time, it’s something to aim for.

We were not made to “run on fumes”, to squeeze out every drop before it runs out.

Yet, whatever is filled up is meant to be emptied out – the petrol in my car, the food in our bodies. It is the same with the love of God; “Let us be empty, so that God can fill us up”.

As a team member, one of the things I’m looking forward to about Ignite Conference is for my tank to be filled.

Balancing work, family and ministry is a tricky juggle and, just like my car, I feel my “spiritual gauge” sits closer to “E” than “F” most of the time.

But when I am surrounded with over a thousand other young people bursting with faith and joy, I am filled to overflowing.

So, if like me, you’re feeling more “Empty” than you’d like, join me at Ignite Conference 2018, so that together we can be filled.
