MORE than 200 young people are expected to attend the final FireStarter event for the year, run by Emmanuel Youth Outreach (EYO).

With the theme “Discover”, the event will focus on helping young people discover the truth about themselves, God’s love and what it means to follow Christ today.

FireStarter will be hosted by Redland Bayside Deanery, and held at Iona College, Lindum, on November 25 from 7pm-10pm.

This is the third FireStarter event for the year, following “The Force” in March, supported by Brisbane South Deanery and “Gener8r” in June, supported by Brisbane West Deanery.

“We are pleased that deaneries are getting behind the FireStarter event,” EYO co-ordinator Luke Plant said.

“They have been a consistently popular event for young people in the archdiocese for six years, with hundreds coming along each time.

“They work because they speak to young people in their contemporary languages of live music, multimedia and personal sharings.”

Emmanuelworship’s FireStarter band will feature on the night, playing a number of covers and original music.

Entry is $5 at the door.

EYO is also preparing for the first teenagers’ summer camp in January.

The camp, called “Zero Gravity”, is for any teenagers who will be in high school in 2007.

“Zero Gravity is about meeting heaps of other young people from across the archdiocese and getting into a bunch of outdoor activities at the beach,” Luke said.

“But it’s also about helping young people discover their faith in a deeper way and to start off the year on the right foot.

Zero Gravity will be held from January 10-14 at Currumundi Recreation Centre on the Sunshine Coast.

The camp cost, which includes transport and a camp T-shirt, is $145 before November 30, or $155 before December 31.

For further information about these events and to register for Zero Gravity, visit www.eyouth.com.au or email eyo@eyouth.com.au or phone Luke Plant on (07) 0405 820 023.
