MISSIONARIES like Edsel Parke and Thomas Ramsey are always needed in East Timor, where the mission field is ripe.
Melbourne Capuchin Father Ben Johnson led a mission to East Timor for two and a half weeks to help the local Franciscans serve the people in different Timorese communities.
Mr Parke and Mr Ramsey retold their experiences at this month’s Faith on Tap on April 14.
They said the level of Catholic faith among the Timorese people was much stronger than in Australia.
They said hundreds would gather in one church for Mass, many unable to fit inside the tiny churches.
They said more people needed to go and make a difference in the lives of those who have less.
“Donations will certainly help where it can, but what will really make a difference in their lives is for people to go over there,” Mr Ramsey said.
The Faith On Tap team also farewelled the apostolate’s founder Allison Atkins who will be moving interstate for work.
Liz Purton will be presenting at next month’s Faith On Tap on the topic, Sex Sells.
