ARCHBISHOP John Bathersby of Brisbane commissioned 40 eager young people to this year’s National Evangelisation Team (NET) Ministries at Christ the King Church, Graceville on February 17.
A packed church listened as Archbishop Bathersby told team members how proud he was of the Brisbane based youth to youth ministry.
He said evangelisation was one of the great challenges in the Church today and reminded the teams they did not go out alone.
Now in its 18th year, NET Ministries trains and prepares young adults for the exciting task of visiting parishes and schools across Australia, New Zealand and Uganda to share their stories of ‘good news’ with other young people.
The 40 young adults from Brazil, Ghana, the United States, Canada, Malaysia, New Zealand and Australia recently took part in a five-week training program on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
The program was dedicated to prayer, team development and learning ministry skills so each member had the ability to communicate their faith in Jesus Christ to other young people and how it impacted on their everyday life.
NET Ministries will have six teams this year, including a national travelling team, consisting of 10 young people who will travel through Queensland, down the east coast and across to Western Australia.
Warwick in Queensland, Geraldton in Western Australia and Melbourne will enjoy a second year of localised ministry, while Hoppers Crossing in Melbourne will welcome its first team.
NET Ministries will also field a pilot team for the state of Queensland. Based in Brisbane they will travel to Cairns and Toowoomba and also make a short trip to New Zealand.
Team supervisor Mark Lysaght said, with such an extensive itinerary for 2005, NET Ministries was inviting prayer support from the community.
‘In an ever changing world these young men and women have sacrificed much to give a year of their lives to participate in the Church’s mission of evangelising and discipling the youth of this nation,’ he said.
