MARGARETA Brosnan could be considered the envy of many young university graduates.
The 22 year-old from Ipswich has been appointed international secretary of the Young Christian Students (YCS) movement.
Margareta will hold the position for the next four years, and although it only provides a stipend to cover her everyday living expenses, her work location is a definite plus.
Margareta will live and work in Paris for the next four years at YCS headquarters.
Speaking from her parents’ home in Ipswich, Margareta said, because of the position, she had fast-tracked her university degree to ensure it was completed in time to take up the job.
‘I finish my last exam next week and they would really like me to be in Paris before the end of November.’
She said she was hoping to start work in time to attend a meeting of international Catholic organisations in Rome at the end of November.
‘It all depends on how quickly I can get my travel papers processed. That is the only hold up now.’
Margareta said much of her job over the next four years would be planning a YCS world council meeting.
‘The last world council was held in Hong Kong in 1991 and we are hoping to hold the next in 2007. It’s a very expensive exercise and requires a huge amount of work.
‘A world council gathers one delegate from every single nation and because of their age each delegate must be accompanied by an adult as well as chaplains.’
