PARISHIONERS at St Ambrose’s, Newmarket, and St Finbarr’s, Ashgrove, recently had the chance to hear first-hand from local students about the importance of the work of Catholic Mission.
Catholic Mission ambassadors from Marist College Ashgrove attended several weekend Masses to mark Catholic Mission Week and share stories about their own immersion experiences at Santa Teresa Aboriginal community in Alice Springs and St Michel, Espiritu Santo, in Vanuatu.
Marist College campus minister Br Mark Fordyce said the young men shared insights such as the experience of living in another culture.
“As pilgrims visiting these communities, they deepened their understanding of solidarity, faith and compassion,” Br Fordyce said.
He said Year 11 students at Marist College Ashgrove undertook five immersion experiences each year.
“They travel to Santa Teresa, Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, Pailin and Phnom Penh in Cambodia,” Br Fordyce said.
