CATHOLIC youth will be spoilt for choice in Redland Shire this year, according to David McGovern, who is helping to develop a youth ministry in St Rita’s Parish at Victoria Point.
David and wife Celena are working with a group of young adults from St Rita’s to establish a number of youth initiatives.
One of the first is a monthly youth Mass.
David said the youth Mass would complement a similar event on alternate Saturday nights at neighbouring St Anthony’s Parish, Alexandra Hills.
‘We have met with Luke and Kaylee, the couple responsible for co-ordinating youth ministry efforts at St Anthony’s, and it’s exciting to see so much being offered for, and by, young people in the Redlands area,’ David said.
‘We feel humbled to have this opportunity to be helping guide the desires of the youth in our parish,’ he said.
David said it was likely that young people from St Rita’s would attend St Anthony’s celebrations and vice versa.
The two groups also would seek to combine forces for various social and spiritual activities.
‘We’ve already got together for a night of water fights and a soaking, so we’re gradually working our way through all the sacraments,’ David said.
The first youth Mass will be celebrated on February 8 at St Rita’s Church with subsequent Masses on the first Sunday of every month.
