YOUNG people of Brisbane archdiocese are invited to walk with Archbishop John Bathersby from Kangaroo Point to St Stephen’s Cathedral on April 21.
The Y-Walk coincides with a number of events including the 39th World Day for Vocations and preparation for World Youth Day.
The young people and the archbishop will be walking in the footsteps of Australia’s first saint, Mary MacKillop.
The walk is being organised by archdiocesan vocations director Fr Tony Randazzo and Vocations Taskforce member Fr Morgan Batt.
Fr Batt said the walk was about solidarity, and he and Fr Randazzo hoped World Youth Day pilgrims, seminarians and those interested in joining the priesthood would join the archbishop.
‘We’re also walking in the footsteps of Mary MacKillop who used to live at Kangaroo Point when she was in Brisbane and walk to what is now the Mary MacKillop chapel,’ he said.
‘It’s also the Sunday before the Synod Youth Forum.’
Fr Randazzo said the walk would be a visible sign of people’s participation and vocation in the Church at different levels.
He said the walk would also focus on vocations for the priesthood.
Participants will gather at St Joseph’s Church, Kangaroo Point at 2pm.
