BRISBANE’S emmanuelworship has received three accolades recently.
They were finalists in the Gospel Spiritual Category for QSONG, Queensland’s largest song writing competition with 4000 entries.
The band also was chosen to feature on the international compilation “Rocking Romans: the Best of New Catholic Music”, an initiative to assist new artists within the Church.
Patrick Keady’s “Regenerate Me” was selected as the opening track while Roby Curtis’ “Peace Comes” also appears (both young men of faith have been featured in The Catholic Leader this year).
Thirdly, next year “Regenerate Me” will be released as part of (Christian radio station) 96.5FM’s “Elevation” album, outreaching to an estimated 20,000 young people.
The band is recording its fifth album “Justice and Praise” for a 2009 release.
Patrick said its 2009 album “points emmanuelworship in a new direction, proclaiming a bold message of social justice side-by-side with songs of personal and corporate worship”.
“For too long these concepts have been polarised in our Church, as if it were a case of either, or,” Patrick said.
“The Gospel has always been a case of ‘both, and’.
“We felt called to challenge this misconception through our lyrics and to record an album that reflected a balance between the heart and the hands of Jesus’ message.
“The process has been a good journey for us personally too (as) it has really provoked us to examine our own lives in the light of that bold message.”
Patrick’s wife Kym is supportive of the venture adding her own perspective.
“The premise of the album is if you don’t breathe God in, how can you breathe him out?” she said.
“The album about how we are called to praise God and from that works of justice come.”
