AFTER-school religious education for younger children has been boosted in Brisbane South Deanery with the introduction of Blaze.
Blaze is aimed at school children aged 8-12 and teaches them about their Catholic faith through fun activities.
Deanery youth co-ordinator Jaye Barros said children from three schools in the Mt Gravatt area registered for the first session at St Agnes Parish Centre, Mt Gravatt on July 27.
Jaye said the theme of the first session was the Holy Spirit, with children spending the afternoon learning some Holy Spirit prayers and how the Holy Spirit works in our lives.
They also heard the weekend’s gospel reading, spent time reflecting and discussing the Scripture, as well as playing games and doing various activities based around the Holy Spirit and the gospel story.
One of the participants, Rachel Barros from Upper Mt Gravatt, said Blaze was really interesting and she learned lots of new things about God.
“The games were really fun,” she said.
The Blaze program will continue fortnightly during school term time at St Agnes Parish Centre.
