THE chance to “Open the door to Christ and see Him in opportunities and the graces He gives” was one student’s response to the 2012 national student retreat for Australian Catholic University (ACU) last month.
The June 19-21 event at Woodlands in Marburg, just outside of Ipswich, was themed “Grace, the weightiness and glory of your life”.
It welcomed almost 40 students from various ACU campuses including Ballarat, Strathfield, Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney.
The largest number of those who attended – of 15 students – is based in the Brisbane campus at Banyo.
ACU Brisbane’s Campus Minister, Identity and Mission, Mary Lysaght said the response to guest speakers such as Dominican Father Dom Murphy, Shayne and Shanelle Bennett and Kym and Patrick Keady “was very positive”.
Fr Morgan Batt (Vocation Director), Robert Schroeder’s (Freedom Ministries), Jess Woodward (Magis) and Peter Carriagan from menALIVE, also assisted.
“There was very powerful input from all the guest speakers,” Mark said.
Of the workshops that students could sign up for the male and female workshops were the first to collect names, “Kym led the women’s session and there was a phenomenal response.”
Of the reactions gathered at the retreat’s conclusion, many spoke favourably about the opportunity to attend daily Mass, as well as Benediction and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
The most important experience of the retreat for one student was “spent time with God and Jesus – either in communal song or during quiet time in reflection and adoration” and “life changing group prayer”.
