Chicken Run is an excellent example of their skill. Mrs Tweedy’s (Miranda Richardson) chicken farm is not making enough money. Her battery hens are on a go-slow campaign and produce enough eggs to save any one of them ending up on the dinner table. Bravely led by Ginger (Julia Sawalha), the imprisoned chickens have failed in all their escape attempts. While Mrs Tweedy decides to diversify into chicken pies, a super rooster, Rocky (Mel Gibson), drops into the chicken yard and Ginger is convinced that he can teach the hens to fly away.
On one level this is an old fashioned and very engaging tale. The brilliance of the technology only adds to the enjoyment of the likable characters and the nobility of the story. Chicken Run is bright, clever and funny.
