THE Australian Catholic bishops’ decision to support a bid by Sydney to host World Youth Day in 2007 is thrilling news.
World Youth Day has been one of the Church’s great success stories in building faith, and not just among young people.
Anyone who has attended a World Youth Day will testify to the amazing atmosphere of solidarity in faith that these events generate.
If Sydney was to win approval to host such an event, it would produce a marvellous flow-on effect through not just the Catholic Church, but Australian society at large.
Let’s hope that with the prayerful support of all Australian Catholics, Sydney will be chosen for World Youth Day 2007.
