WORLD Youth Day is one of the Catholic Church’s most successful mass events.
It attracts close to 1 million young pilgrims every few years.
The prospect of Sydney staging World Youth Day in 2008 is certainly exciting.
If the bid is successful it will have a spin-off beyond Sydney’s borders.
Queensland will certainly be a big drawcard before and after the event.
Then there is the prospect of a papal visit.
Premier Peter Beattie has already invited Pope Benedict XVI to the Sunshine State.
Now all we have to do is pray and wait until August 21 for the announcement in Cologne, Germany.
