ABORIGINAL communities stand to benefit from increased funding to battle the problems of abuse and violence following a Federal Government announcement last week.
However, this money needs to be used wisely by the states if it is to address the serious issues that threaten these communities.
The causes of violence and abuse are not just limited to law and order.
They are also to a large extent a consequence of isolation and deprivation of basic services.
If we are to see worthwhile results from this funding program, it needs to be targeted sensibly and by addressing the root causes of the problems in Aboriginal communities.
