The leaders of the Catholic and Anglican Churches in Brisbane believed it was a good idea in 1984, and 25 years later, as the two archdioceses celebrate their 150th anniversaries, our leaders believe just as strongly that it’s a commitment well worth affirming.
Following the example set in 1984 by Archbishop Francis Rush and Anglican Archbishop John Grindrod who signed a Common Declaration in support of ecumenical co-operation, Archbishop John Bathersby and Anglican Archbishop Phillip Aspinall, along with Bishop William Morris of Toowoomba will sign a new covenant to strengthen the bonds between the Churches.
It will be a celebration of what Jesus prayed for – the unity of His followers – and an historical event for all Catholics and Anglicans of Brisbane to witness.
