AUSTRALIA’S bishops have released a pastoral letter which shows the Catholic Church is willing to tune in to the 21st century.
“Go Tell Everyone”, extolls every Catholic’s responsibility to use the growing opportunities for social communications to spread the Good News.
The secular media has often been maligned by those in authority in the Church as dangerous and “out to get us”.
At the same time, the expectation in some Church circles has been that the Catholic press should not report on issues such as abuse in the Church or other sensitive topics. This infringes on truth and the mission of the media.
“Go Tell Everyone” opens the door to a greater understanding of the communications media and a willingness to accept the opportunities they offer.
