THE parish and its members are the cornerstone for renewal under Archbishop John Bathersby’s bold plan to revitalise Brisbane archdiocese.
The shepherd of almost 600,000 Catholics has outlined a vision which will ultimately depend on the faithful and their active participation in the archdiocese’s renewal.
Each person is being encouraged to deepen their faith and prayer life and to establish a real relationship with Jesus Christ.
Individuals working together as a parish community can use this energy to make a difference, not just in their local area, but also throughout the archdiocese.
Synod 2003 has been an opportunity to listen and to be guided by the Holy Spirit.
Having recognised the signposts, now is the time to embrace that road to renewal.
Only then can the Church be effective in spreading the Good News.
Jesus Christ asked his apostles to launch out into the deep and then be prepared to be surprised.
As his apostles in the 21st century, we too are being asked to cast our nets in faith. The size of the catch may prove surprising.
