IT is of serious concern that young teenage girls could be using the morning after pill as a ‘quick fix’ after a casual sexual encounter.
When a change in the law took effect on January 1 allowing the drug, Postinor-2, to be obtained over the counter from pharmacies, fears were raised about its potential misuse.
Church and pro-life groups were loudly warning of the possible ramifications.
Now six months later, others are starting to realise that these warnings were valid and have also voiced their concerns.
Federal Health Minister Tony Abbott deserves support in his intended bid to tighten access to the morning after pill.
Pharmacists refusing to sell this drug should also be applauded.
Currently, access to the morning after pill makes it far too easy for someone, who may be too young to understand what they are doing, to kill an unborn child.
